What You'll Need
To play indoor bowls, you'll need to have flat-soled shoes (this prevents damage to the carpet) and a set of bowls. Don't worry if you haven't got either of these though - you can hire all the equipment you need from us at the Centre! Hire costs are 50p per pari of shoes and £1.00 per set of bowls.
If (or when!) you start playing more seriously, you might find that you want your own equipment. Here's a handy buying guide to everything you'll need :
If you're buying a new set of bowls, make sure you try them first. Bowls come in a variety of weights, sizes, some with grips, some without and you'll find that some curve more than others. Some bowls are made specifically for the outdoor and these are usually unsuitable for indoor use as they will curve too much! You are more than welcome to try the various bowls we have at the Centre to make sure that you are buying bowls that suit you.
Almost all bowling greens accept white shoes these days, but you can also wear brown.
There is a dress code for playing on the members' rinks at Newport; grey below the waist and white above it. However, there is no dress code for the public rinks although comfortable clothing is always recommended!
